Police: Man in wheelchair shot, killed by officer after arguing with officer
A man in a wheelchair was shot and killed by police in the Bronx on Monday, authorities said.
The man was shot while arguing with officers who responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at the home of the man’s father, authorities told the New York Post.
Authorities have not identified the man, who was in his 60s, but said he was suffering from a mental illness.
The father told authorities that his son had been acting erratically and that he was going to shoot him if he didn’t stop arguing, authorities say.
The incident comes amid a wave of deadly confrontations between police and people with mental health issues.
The New York City Police Department released a statement saying officers were called to the home on Sunday evening.
The family of the deceased man had not yet been notified.
Police say they believe the man was acting erratic and were not able to reach him, but they were able to locate the home and render first aid.
The Bronx District Attorney’s office declined to comment on the case.
