How to break up with a weed dealer
It’s the ultimate “get out of jail free” card for some people, but there are times when a weed bust is the last thing you want to be doing.
But for marijuana-addicted ex-pilot Mark Tausch, a California court ordered him to pay more than $150,000 in restitution after he was busted for possessing a kilo of marijuana and a quarter-pound of pot.
The ex-marine was sentenced in August 2016 to five years of probation and a $1,000 fine for his arrest for possessing the drugs.
Tausd was ordered to spend four months of his probation in a halfway house for the drug offense.
In June, the judge in his case told Tauss he could not be released from the halfway house, even though he had complied with his probation.
Tauch was ordered released from jail on June 22.
Tausch’s attorney, John Rau, said Tausen was in the process of completing a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice when he was arrested and placed in a “bond-like arrangement” with a marijuana dealer who would keep him out of trouble.
“His life was over,” Rau said.
“The court order to leave the halfway home was a mistake.”
Tauscch was released from custody the same day the judge issued the probation order, but he returned to jail to begin serving his probation and would be back on parole in September.
He told ABC News that Tausich had “nothing to hide.”
“My whole life I’ve always been a guy that wants to work hard,” he said.
“You can’t just put your head down and be complacent.”
A former police officer in California, Tauschn had been a marine in the Marine Corps Reserve for four years before he was sent to the California Highway Patrol in January 2016.
After being released from prison, he worked in a medical marijuana dispensary, according to court documents.
Tauch said he has a lot of experience dealing with weed, but that the only thing he would change about his life is to “stay away from weed.”
He also said he wanted to keep his drug use private and would not allow anyone to know what he did.
“I can’t talk about my past,” Taussch said.
