Christmas tree trains will soon be on Indian roads
A Christmas tree train has been made possible thanks to an initiative by the Ministry of Railways and a railway ministry-appointed panel.
The project is being developed for the purpose of enabling trains to ply between the cities of Mumbai and New Delhi on a daily basis.
The trains are to carry approximately 1,500 tonnes of cargo and will be equipped with automatic fire extinguishers and smoke detectors.
The government is seeking proposals from train companies.
Railway minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the railway department will soon submit an application to the railway ministry for approval to launch the project.
The rail ministry had proposed the railway companies to build and run the trains between Mumbai and Delhi in a cost-sharing agreement with the Indian Railways.
